The pricing models, compared
Almost every companion app fits one of the first three rows. The fourth row is how Swipey structures it, and it changes what "monthly cost" means, because the currency can come from play rather than your card.
| Model | How it works | Watch for | Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat subscription | One monthly fee, everything included | Usage caps hidden in the fine print | Kindroid (flat monthly) |
| Subscription plus a media currency | Monthly fee for chat; credits or token packs for pictures, voice and video | Marginal costs add up, and promotional prices expire | Candy AI, DreamGF, Nectar |
| Free tier, one subscription, earnable currency | Free permanently for the basics; one published subscription; a currency you can earn or buy | Know what the currency buys before you buy any | Swipey AI |
Competitor pricing models are summarised from their public pages in September 2026. We do not reprint competitor prices because they change often and vary by region.
How much does an AI girlfriend cost per month, typically?
A light user on a flat plan spends the subscription and nothing more, which is the simplest case. A heavy media user on a credits model can spend several times the subscription, because every picture and every minute of voice is metered separately, and the promotional first month rarely reflects the second.
On Swipey, Premium at $7.99 a month already includes unlimited chat, unlimited character-consistent images, voice calls and voice messages, video scenes up to 60 seconds, one Fanclub and full relationship progression. Hearts sit on top for extras such as more generations, Fanclub content sets and gifts, and they arrive through daily quests, the 7-day streak, level-ups, the daily spin and, for Premium, an automatic daily grant. Someone who plays daily earns a steady flow of hearts without buying a pack; someone who wants a lot of creator content will still buy some. The hearts explainer lists every route.
The other number that matters is zero, meaning what you get before paying anything. On Swipey the free tier is permanent, not a trial: you sign up with an email address, no card, and keep creating your AI, chatting with platform characters, browsing the Feed and generating a limited number of images for as long as you like. Quests, the 7-day streak and the daily spin pay hearts on the free tier too. Many apps in the credits model offer a trial that ends or a free tier so small it functions as a demo, so ask what "free" still includes after week one.
Hidden costs to check before you pay
- Introductory discounts that revert to a higher price after the first cycle.
- Per-message caps on plans sold as "unlimited".
- Media generation that is both subscription-gated and metered by a separate currency.
- Cancellation friction: a plan that takes three screens to leave costs more than its price tag.
Swipey's answers to those four, in order: one public price with no introductory variant on swipey.ai/pricing; Premium chat has no message caps; images, voice and video are included in Premium, with hearts only for extras; and cancellation is in your profile under Settings, Subscription, Current Plan, with Premium running to the end of the paid period.
Where Swipey AI sits
The free tier is permanent and covers creating your AI, basic chat with platform characters, the Feed and limited images. Premium is $7.99 a month, billed monthly, cancel anytime in Settings, and includes unlimited chat, images, voice calls and messages, 60-second video, one Fanclub, full progression and daily hearts. Hearts are earned through quests, streaks and level-ups, or bought in the app. The line-by-line version is on our pricing page, and the feature list shows what each tier includes, row by row. If you want to see it for yourself, creating your AI on swipey.ai is free.
Frequently asked questions
How much is an AI girlfriend per month?
Roughly $10 to $30 a month for a subscription in 2026, with pictures, voice and video often charged separately through credits or token packs. Swipey AI has a permanent free tier and Premium at $7.99 a month that includes voice, images and 60-second video, plus hearts you can earn by playing.
Why do AI girlfriend apps use tokens?
To price media generation separately from chat, so pictures, voice minutes and video each draw down a balance you top up with real money. Swipey uses hearts instead: you can earn them by playing as well as buy them, and Premium already includes voice, images and video without a separate meter.
Is Swipey AI cheaper than Candy AI?
Swipey publishes one price, $7.99 a month, that includes voice, images and video, plus hearts you can earn. Candy AI sells a subscription plus a media currency with frequent promotions, so the total depends on how much media you generate. JoinSwipey runs the line-by-line comparison between the two.
